New Drug Treatment Center opens in the Bronx

October 3, 2023 — Bronx, NY

As the opioid crisis continues to plague the five boroughs, a new residential drug treatment facility has opened its doors in the Bronx to introduce rehabilitation and reintegration aid all in one.

Harbor House 1, located in Morrisania, will house 114 men and women to receive tailored addiction and mental health treatment.
“They are going to be moving into a state-of-the-art facility,” said Leona Jones, program director at Harbor House 1. “They’re really excited about it.”

“I’m very proud of what we’re able to do here…Folks Coming into this facility are coming through the Criminal Justice System, through the NYS shelters, Self Referrals…”

The New York state Office of Addiction Services and Supports granted over $26 million for the building of the new facility, as well as an additional $2.6 million for annual operations.
This facility will allow an expansion of services, which comes after the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reported a 12% increase in overdose deaths in 2022.
Department of Health data also shows that fentanyl was detected in 81% of overdose deaths in New York City in 2022.

“Everyday we have individuals that go out into the community and do nothing but train other Community Members on how to administer Narcan and save a life.”

Dan Lowy – Interim Co-Executive Director, Argus Community
