Institute (ACT I)::
ACT I provides job training and placement for persons
interested in and
qualified to become Substance Abuse Counselors.
The ACT I welfare-to-work program trains persons
on public assistance to become substance abuse counselors in a field where
there is an acute shortage of well-trained personnel, counseling, and
job readiness enable trainees to resolve barriers to good jobs and upward
mobility. The comprehensive classroom training includes supervised internships
and job placements. The ACT I curriculum has been approved by the New
York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services enabling
graduates with three years of employment in the field to be eligible to
take the examination to become Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors.
Eligibility:
- Public Assistance
recipient or low income
- Ages 24
and above
- High School
Diploma or GED
- Commitment
to 39 weeks of classroom instruction and practicums and 90 days of post-job
placement follow-up
- Homeless
persons will be considered
- Recovered
persons are welcome if 6 months drug free.
